Bodegas Terras Gauda, or “Lands of Joy” as Romans used to call the area, was founded in 1989 by José María Fonseca, the current chairman of the winery, in response to the emergence of the D.O. Rías Baixas as a prominent denomination of origin in Spain.

In 1990 the winery was founded and the produce of local grape-growers was used to make 37000 bottles of Terras Gauda 90, their first year’s production, at the same time as they started to plant their own vineyards with a clear view towards safeguarding the identity of O Rosal wine.

Launched as a private venture, Terras Gauda identified quality initiatives with wines from the O Rosal as a primary focus and remains an innovator with a significant research and development fund.
