Pinot Noir Cortijo los Aguilares

Awarded for the second time a gold medal in the 14th Mundial du Pinot Noir, in Sierre, Switzerland, something very unusual for a pinot noir produced in Spain, this irmly establishes the wine as being of great quality at an international level. The prize-winning wine (the 2010 vintage) has got a more loral taste than previous years, as well as an unusual and pleasing acidity point, guaranteeing a long bottle life during which it can be enjoyed. The three hectares of Pinot Noir vines that have been the source of the Bodega’s highest international awards are more than 900 metres above sea level, and the treatment they get is rather more akin to that of a garden than a vineyard. The harvest is always carried out in two separate phases in order to get a balanced crop. The refrigerated maceration of the grapes and the controlled fermentation is intended to extract the maximum quality from this delicate variety. The second fermentation is done in large French oak barrels in order to conserve fully the individual character of the grape. Nine months’ barrel ageing in the best-available quality French oak casks completes the process.
