Reto

The vineyard, the link of the family to the region and the work was what established Bodegas Ponce. Many of his skills he learned from his father and also from his extensive travels to France. He founded Bodegas Ponce in the high altitude wine region “Manchuela”, east of Madrid. The winery strictly uses the idea of “terroir”, elaborating each wine individually, thereby creating wines with an unforgettable aroma and style.

Total winery production is tiny with around 3.500 cases a year and all wines are produced according to a completely biodynamical production method.

The vineyard of “Reto” are 50 years of age, and come from different plots called Media Legua, Ponza, Larras and Planta. In total they unite about 5 hectares of Albillo grape variety, a grape which was neglected for long time, but which has perfectly adapted to the area and climate and therefore produces wines with an outstanding acidity.

Style In Bodegas Ponce, all is done by hand. The manual harvest ensures that the grapes are picked in the very best moment. Harvest of “Reto” is only done in the morning hours to avoid high temperatures. In winery, the grapes are cooled down to 2-5 degrees for about 24 hours. Afterwards, the grapes pass through a vertical press and then the most is introduced directly to the barrels so that fermentation begins in a natural way. The wine is neither clarified nor filtered. This is artesanal winemaking in the purest meaning.

Limited production of only 10.000 bottles.
